Crosscare is looking for public support for our annual appeal to prevent even more people from losing their homes as the housing and accommodation crisis deepens.
The number of people in emergency accommodation in Dublin is now over 9,000; this includes almost 3,000 children. Crosscare provides homeless accommodation in six locations in the city, including a Family Hub for homeless families and a service for homeless teenage boys.
As well as providing emergency and medium-term homeless services, our teams work hard with hundreds of families and individuals who are at risk of losing their homes.
We do this in several ways through our Homeless Prevention Services, offering critical advice and support to families and individuals. Last year alone, 2,700 families and 2,500 individuals came to us for help. Four hundred of these households needed urgent support as they were at risk of losing their homes.
As well as advice and advocating for those in need, we support people who have moved on from homelessness through the Clan project. It helps people to adapt, find stability in their new communities, and remain engaged with others in similar situations. Crosscare’s Aftercare Service works with young people between 18 and 23 who have moved out of care and are adjusting to independent living.
These vital services for those in need ensure that hundreds of families and people at risk are kept out of homeless services if possible—donations from the public and grant aid support much of this work.
As the cost of living and housing crisis continues to impact the most vulnerable people, we are appealing for your help to ensure these critical services are maintained and, where needed, expanded.
The Crosscare Annual Appeal Collection will be taken up at all Masses in the Archdiocese of Dublin on September 16th and 17th.
