Our Parish is dedicated to Our Lady under the title of Mother of the Church. This is a title of long standing tradition given to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It acknowledges the presence of Mary with the apostles in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, fifty days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, when the Holy Spirit came upon them and they began to go out and preach the message of salvation in Jesus. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is now seen as the mother figure for all the disciples of Jesus.
In 2018 Pope Francis decreed that the feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church be celebrated universally throughout the Catholic Church on the day after Pentecost.
